The municipal corporation of Manesar in Gurgaon, India, is gearing up for its first civic polls, but the delay in the country's decennial census that determines population literacy and migration down to the village level means that the municipal area - which hosts a large section of what is commonly called "new Gurgaon" - doesn't quite know how many voters it has or how many votes it will lose. According to Parivar Pehchan Patra PPP data, which has been taken as a base for ward delimitation in MCM areas in the absence of latest census data, there are 46282 families with a total of 17 lakh members who have enrolled for the family IDs of these only 76000 are eligible voters in the city. The corporation has an estimated population of 5 lakh, but low penetration of PPP and marginal voter registration means a large number of families particularly those living in the condominiums and residential societies in new sectors who are vocal on social media about infrastructure problems may end up not participating in the local body polls unless there's a massive enrolment drive in urban Manesar in the coming week.
