The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, said on Saturday that his government will initiate steps to create awareness about the Patharughat Peasant Uprising of 1894. A documentary about the uprising will be made and it will be screened at the national level. The peasants protesting undue enhanced revenue were fired upon without any provocation on January 28, 1894, and over 100 people died.
