Rangers sign free agent reliever Will Smith

The Texas Rangers signed free agent reliever Will Smith to a one-year contract on Saturday.

The 33-year-old left-hander will join the club's spring training facility on Saturday in Surprise, Ariz.

The Rangers designated infielder Mark Mathias for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster.

Smith split last season with Atlanta and Houston, finishing 0-3 with a 3.97 ERA and five saves in 65 appearances.
