My wife can work from home but she wants us to move back to her home town
DEAR DEIDRE: ALTHOUGH my wife is pushing for a family move back to her home town, my heart just isn’t in it.
We moved to our current area seven years ago when I got a new job in the fire service. My wife can work from home.
I’m 42, she is 45 and our boys are 11 and 14.
Her home town is 12 miles away, with better transport links so we wouldn’t need to drive to meet friends or to go to the cinema.
But I’d have to drive further for work. Plus, I’ve made lots of friends here through work and the kids’ football club.
My wife keeps telling our sons they’ll be happier in a new school.

DEIDRE SAYS: Can you compromise by moving closer to the town and on bus routes or train lines – yet still near to your established friendship group?
If not, book a house rental for a weekend near the town and see whether you could envisage living there.
Talk to estate agents about good schools and show the boys what life might be like.
Then write down the pros and cons of each place and see whether you can reach a decision to suit everyone.
