Outrage as traffic wardens ticket a line of cars ‘abandoned by drivers in the snow’
THIS is the shocking moment traffic wardens ticketed a row of cars – after owners were forced to abandon them in the snow.
The two parking meter enforcers were slammed by a bystander who caught the “disgusting” ordeal on camera.
The resident of Bradford, West Yorkshire, warned motorists of the event on social media.
He said: “Look at this, all these cars abandoned, from the snow and they’re out here ticketing them.
“Where are you going? It’s absolutely disgusting what you’re doing.
“They’re all here because of the weather – the weather – it’s not even been a clear 24 hours and you’re giving them all tickets.”
He captioned the footage: “If you abandoned your car on Sandy Lane they are out ticketing them.
“Absolutely shocking. Bradford – City of Vulture.”
The car owners had allegedly ditched their cars on double yellow lines because the snow had hidden them.
The wardens completely ignore the man in the video, who works at a nearby garage, and he has since posted it on social media.
It sparked outrage, as many were angry that the road had not been gritted in the first place.
They argued people should take their tickets to court and demand an appeal.
One user commented: “Owners of the cars need to appeal the tickets, as there were no double yellows in view at the time as the snow was covering the road and there are no signs to say ‘no parking’.”
“If they had gritted the road they would not have got stuck”, agreed a second.
Another said: “I suppose they need to pay for the town hall heating.”
“I bet these leeches couldn’t wait until the snow had melted to go out and issue tickets”, said another furious viewer.
However, others were sympathetic to the wardens’ decision.
One wrote: “No snow, lines visible, owner could have come collect his vehicle.”
“I bet a lot of those drivers go down that road every day, and know where there are double yellow lines,” agreed another.
The Sun Online has contacted Braford City Council for comment.
How to challenge an official parking ticket from the council
If you have a compelling, or very persuasive reason for appealing, the council can use its discretion to decide whether to cancel the notice.
First, drivers will have to complain to the council in writing, with any witness statements or photographs included.
If the council accepts your reasons for appealing, your fine will be cancelled and you’ll have nothing to pay.
If the council rejects your reasons, you will be sent a notice. You will then have 28 days to make a formal appeal or the charge could increase.
If your formal appeal is rejected you can then take it to an appeal tribunal. This is free and you can submit it online – you don’t have to attend.
If you’re not successful then you need to pay up and within 28 days and if you don’t the fine could go up.
This comes as thousands of parking fines are challenged every day across the UK.
Suzy Jennifer was stunned when the meter suggested she had been parked at Salisbury District Hospital, Wilts, since 1970.
She is one of a string of visitors complaining about the newly-installed ticket machines outside the hospital.
Suzy said: “When I tried to pay, the system told me I owed £56 and had been there since 1970.
“Considering I wasn’t born, then it’s pretty good going to be able to have parked my car there.”
One man was furious after being fined £90 for charging his electric car at Lidl.
Another furious motorist told how he was slapped with a £50 fine for exceeding the time limit in the car park outside McDonald’s by around 10 minutes.
