Gunman, 29, storms Bradford police station and opens fire while wielding knife as armed cops rush to scene
A GUNMAN stormed a police station and opened fire while also wielding a knife as armed cops rushed to the scene on Saturday.
The 29-year-old man walked up to the help desk inside Trafalgar House Police Station in Bradford, Yorkshire, brandishing the knife and a handgun, police said.
The staff, as well as members of the public, retreated in horror before a unit of armed police arrived and arrested the man on suspicion of firearms offences and making threats to kill.
He remains in custody at this time.
The force confirmed that there had been no injuries.
A gas-powered ball bearing gun was discharged in the course of the incident, cops said.
Detective Chief Inspector Andy Farrell said: “Thankfully, no one was hurt during the incident and our helpdesk staff are receiving welfare support.
“We know members of the public were in the vicinity of the helpdesk at the time and are keen to speak to anyone who may have information.
“Armed officers attended within a very short time frame, which allowed us to quickly and safely resolve the incident.
“We can confirm this was an isolated incident which poses no wider threat to the public.”
He added that the help desk would be closed for several hours and encouraged the public to contact the force by phone on 101 instead.
