I’m fortunate to be alive after ‘idiot driver’ almost ran me off the road – I’m furious
A CYCLIST claims that he is lucky to be alive after an ‘idiot driver’ almost ran him off the road.
Gary Craig, 59, from West London, was left in shock when a truck crane overtook him on a narrow street in Hayes.
The driver of the truck appears to have committed to overtaking, but not considered an oncoming van approaching in the opposite lane.
As the truck draws closer it has to veer across in order to avoid the van – only just missing Gary on his bike.
Surprisingly, the driver of the truck did not even attempt to slow down to check on Gary – who although not physically injured, found the experience extremely traumatic.
The incident took place in the early morning of March 30th.
Gary filmed the incident with his body camera and shouted out to the crane driver in shock: “F**** hell, f**** hell.”
He told the Sun Online: “I’m not a swearer; however, I felt so shocked at that moment that I needed to say that.
“It’s quite a clear road, to be honest, so this crane being so close to me was surprising.
“I’m a very confident cyclist. If I wasn’t that confident, I would have ended up under the wheels of that trailer without a doubt.
“I didn’t have time to think that I was going to lose my life, the crane was so close to me, and it happened so fast that I didn’t have time to think about it.”
After suffering this incident, he published the footage on Twitter and titled the post: ‘This was my close pass yesterday, phew!”
His video has gone viral on social media, with more than 1.4million views and dozens of comments.
Craig reported the incident to the police, and it’s still under investigation.
However, the cyclist revealed that the transport company that owns the truck crane contacted him and suspended the driver.
Most social media users were on Craig’s side.
One said: “F***** hell. You should report it.”
Another said: “That’s dangerous and nearly crashed into oncoming traffic as well. What the heck is wrong with people who do this kind of thing?”
A third pointed out: “That was a scary watch. Hope you are ok.”
This comes after a dozy driver was caught barreling down a cycle line with riders struggling to get out of the way.
Plus, a cyclist who was nearly knocked off their bike by a dozy driver has been told by the police that nothing will be done.
