Mitcham shooting: Man in his 20s dies after being gunned down as cops launch murder probe

A MAN has died after being gunned down in South London with cops launching an urgent murder probe.

Cops and emergency services rushed to Croydon Road in Mitcham just before 2.30am this morning after reports of a man found injured in the street.

The man, in his 20s, was rushed to a London hospital for treatment.

But despite being treated by staff he died a short time later.

Cops said that at this early stage it is believed the man had suffered a gunshot injury.

Officers are now carrying out enquiries to inform his next of kin after the suspected shooting.

A crime scene has remained in place on the road near the junction with Beddington Lane.

Homicide detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command are continuing to investigate.

Cops are appealing to anyone who was in and around the Croydon Road area last night and saw anything suspicious to get in contact.

They are also keen to speak to any road users with dash cam to check their footage to see if anything of interest has been captured.
