Grenier & Schiller Added To Mercedes Performance Driver Stable For 2023

0

Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing has revealed its line-up of ‘performance’, ‘expert’ and ‘junior’ factory drivers for the 2023 season.

This line-up has increased to 18 established drivers and up-and-coming talents. Of these, 11 are seasoned ‘performance’ drivers, two are ‘expert’ drivers and five are ‘junior’ drivers. Between them, they will support Mercedes’ customer and performance teams throughout the season.

In Mercedes GT3 machinery the ‘performance’ drivers will feature in all the major national and international GT series. The headline here is the addition of Mikaël Grenier and Fabian Schiller to the list, which includes Lucas Auer, Philip Ellis, Maro Engel, Maximilian Götz, Jules Gounon, Thomas Jäger, Daniel Juncadella, Raffaele Marciello and Luca Stolz. Both Grenier and Schiller have been promoted to the ‘performance’ roster after impressing as ‘junior’ drivers.

The programmes for Mercedes-AMG’s ‘expert’ drivers have been set too. North American racing specialist Daniel Morad will take part in the seven GT World Challenge America race weekends in 2023 and the Intercontinental GT Challenge race at Indianapolis. Adam Christodoulou will primarily compete at the Nürburgring in the NLS races and N24.

For 2023, the ‘performance’ and ‘expert’ drivers will be accompanied by the five up-and-coming ‘junior’ drivers. Arjun Maini and David Schumacher will be joined by new signings Ralf Aron, Jordan Love and Jusuf Owega.

During the season, all ‘performance’ drivers will primarily be racing in the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup, the Intercontinental GT Challenge, the DTM, the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, the Nürburgring Endurance Series and the Nürburgring 24 Hours.

In addition to the aforementioned series, Mercedes-AMG ‘performance’ drivers Jules Gounon and Raffaele Marciello will also compete in the British GT Championship, Maximilian Götz and Luca Stolz will race in GT World Challenge Asia and ‘junior’ Jordan Love will be racing in GT World Challenge Australia.

As part of his car development duties, Thomas Jäger will be in action during the 24h Nürburgring and the 24H Series. On top of that, he remains sporting director in DTM.

Missing from Mercedes’ stable of factory drivers this year are Maxi Buhk, who retired from racing last October, and Manuel Metzger, who was previously an ‘expert’ driver.

“For 2023, we have added a few talented and fast guys to our strong driver line-up that has delivered undisputed top-notch achievements once again in the past season,” said Stefan Wendl, head of Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing.

“With Ralf Aron, Jordan Love and Jusuf Owega, we welcome three new up-and-coming members into the World’s Fastest Family, all of them having proven their talent already and now able to continue their development as junior drivers at Mercedes-AMG. As a result, we are confident to be an in excellent position for the new season and we are looking forward to thrilling motorsport moments and plenty of joint success.”
