This Morning viewers furious as show ignores ruling on Phillip Schofield’s brother in news round-up
THIS Morning fans shared their anger today after the ITV show failed to report on Phillip Schofield’s brother being found guilty of “emotionally blackmailing” a teen into sex acts, and forcing him to watch porn.
Devastated Phillip released a scathing statement on Monday following the shocking verdict after taking a week off This Morning.
The presenter, 61, also submitted evidence that was used in the trial.
This Morning was today hosted by regular stars Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary, who have stepped in for Phil and Holly Willoughby over the Easter break.
Dermot and Alison were joined by broadcaster Matthew Wright and news presenter Isla Traquair minutes into the show, and the group shared the top stories of the day with viewers.
They first reported on statistics that showed women suffered from imposter syndrome in the workplace, before moving on to the new design for the England Women’s football kits for the FIFA 2023 Women’s World Cup.
Alison and Demot later shared plates of lasagne made from Yorkshire puddings, revealing it was a new food trend.
But people at home flocked to Twitter and said the segment was incredibly awkward and slammed the show.
One said: “Have they mentioned any grooming stories in the today’s top stories”section, or have they glossed over it?”
Another shared The Sun’s front page today that led with Phillip’s statement on his brother, and they wrote: “And the elephant in the room keeps getting bigger… and bigger… and bigger…”
“Major story their top presenters bro is banged up for and they harp on about a football kit,” one more typed.
A fourth tweeted: “No mention of a certain celebrity presenter’s brother being found guilty then in the news round up?”
A fourth said “Anyone else think the shows days are numbered? They glossed over queue gate but this will effect everyone there.”
Phillip broke his silence on Instagram yesterday and said he “no longer had a brother”.
Phillip wrote: “My overwhelming concern is and has always been for the wellbeing of the victim and his family. I hope that their privacy will now be respected.
“If any crime had ever been confessed to me by my brother, I would have acted immediately to protect the victim and their family.
“These are despicable crimes, and I welcome the guilty verdicts. As far as I am concerned, I no longer have a brother.”
