I rescued an adorable kitten and took it into my home – but soon realized it was something very different
A COUPLE thought they had rescued an innocent-looking kitten before realizing that the animal was something far sinister.
The family, from Tennessee, was surprised when they spotted the furry creature exploring their back porch.
They thought they had done a good deed when they rushed to an animal shelter in Mt. Juliet.
But, workers at the True Rescue animal shelter revealed that the innocent-looking feline was, in fact, a bobcat.
Amy Simcik, the director of the sanctuary, revealed she knew the animal wasn’t like a typical domestic cat.
She told McClatchy News in June 2022: “It was very big — big head, big feet … wild and musky kind of smelling.”
Amy also revealed that bobcats tend to make birdlike noises, rather than a meow.
The animal, later named Pearl, was checked over by medics before being sent to another center in Chattanooga.
Bobcats are not known for attacking humans, but experts have warned that the beasts shouldn’t be touched.
The animals can be kept as pets, but ownership laws differ between states.
Bobcats are often confused for domestic cats, but they are renowned for their bobbed-like tail and their pointed ears.
The wildcats can grow twice as big as the typical housecat.
Homeowners have been given a shock after thinking they’ve rescued an innocent kitten before realizing they temporarily homed a bobcat.
Jared Yost found an animal that appeared to be a kitten while he was on a landscaping job, he recalled to local ABC News affiliate WPLG.
The fluffy creature was hiding on the edge of a parking lot with birds chirping above it.
Although Jared said he’s not a “cat person,” he revealed he took the animal home.
He and his family gave it a blanket, soft cat food, and kitten milk.
Jared said that the cat appeared to be young and hungry.
He revealed that the creature wasn’t the friendliest at first, but he was able to comfort the animal.
But, it began making a screeching sound, which sparked alarm.
Jared took the animal to the Minnesota Wildlife Rehabilitation Center and they confirmed that the lost “kitten” was actually a bobcat.
And, Jill Hicks rescued what looked like a stray kitten before finding out that it was actually a bobcat.
