Here's how Cam Smith has performed since joining LIV Golf

0

For all the familiar names who defected from the PGA Tour to the Saudi-backed LIV Golf start up, none were at their peak like Cameron Smith.

The 29-year-old from Australia was coming off a win at The Players and Open Championship when he signed a reported $100 million signing bonus to leave the Tour.

Now playing in fewer tournaments, in a league struggling to earn viewers on TV in Year 2, Smith is still finding success on the course and in the world rankings — though it’s hardly an apples-to-apples comparison given LIV events feature fewer rounds per tournament and no cut.

Entering the 2023 Masters, Smith is ranked No. 6 globally behind PGA stalwarts Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Patrick Cantlay and Max Homa in that order.

That’s despite two top-five finishes in LIV competition in 2022 and including his victory at a LIV event in Chicago last year. Here’s a rundown of how things have gone for Smith on the LIV circuit:

2023

  • Mayakoba: 69-71-67 — 6th place
  • Tucson: 71-70-70 — 26th place
  • Orlando: 69-68-71 —29th place

2022

  • Boston: 64-69-63 — 5th place
  • Chicago: 66-68-69 —1st place
  • Bangkok: 72-70-70 — 42nd place
  • Jeddah: 68-69-68 — 22nd place

Smith is among those still searching for his first green jacket at Augusta. He opens the week +1800 at BetMGM to win the Masters in 2023.
