Woman shows why you need to wash your water bottle straws daily…& she swears it’s why she’s been sick for THREE YEARS
A WOMAN has left people horrified after revealing how much mould she discovered in the straw she’d been drinking out of daily.
The shocked woman, who has been experiencing stomach problems for three years, explained how she found “chunks of black mould all through the straw” after failing to clean it after every use.
“I’ve probably been drinking it because mould wouldn’t stick to the sides, it’d be coming up the straw when I’m drinking out of my drink bottle,” she explains.
The social media user, who posted the video to TikTok (@tribeskincare), explained how she feels “sick” following the discovery and “doesn’t know whether to laugh or cry.”
In the clip, she explains: “I feel like I have tears in me eyes – that’s how shocked I am.
“So long story short, my sister asked me on Friday how often I clean the straw in my Frank Green water bottle.
“I was like, ‘I don’t clean the straw…do I need to clean the straw? I only drink water out of it’ and she’s like ‘yes, you need to clean the straw because you’re going to have mould in it.”
The woman then goes on to add some further context and explains how she’s been “so sick” for nearly three years of her life.

“There’s something wrong with my stomach,” she continues.
“No specialist or GPs or anyone can work out what is wrong.
“I’ve got all these symptoms and we’ve run all these tests and I’ve had that thing done where they put like a tube down your throat to check your stomach and no one can figure out what’s wrong.”
The horrified woman goes onto point out that she’s not saying this is “definitely” what’s wrong, but adds there’s also a pattern that she’s never sick on weekends and only sick on weekdays.
“Sometimes I’ll be sick every single day and then sometimes it’ll be months at a time when I’m not sick, so we can’t figure it out,” she says.
“I’m not sure if this is what’s wrong but it’s definitely an interesting theory.”
She adds: “This is no hate to Frank Green which is where my water bottle is from because it says on their website you should clean the straw and the bottle every single time you use it and I never read this.
“This would definitely be life-changing to me if my sister has figured out why I’m sick all the time but if you have a straw…clean it!”
The post has since gone viral, racking up a whopping 798k views and hundreds of comments.
“Clear straws only in drink bottles here,” wrote one.
A second penned: “I can’t drink out of them anymore, the mould grows overnight.”
A third commented: “I’ll be honest..I don’t wash my water bottle either…it’s just got water in it. Whoops!”
Elsewhere, others were left more shocked by the amount of people who don’t wash their straws regularly.
“Wow wouldn’t have though that’s something you’d need to read. This is why I hare drink bottles with straws. Turns out my paranoia is real,” quipped one.
