Motorcyclist dies in Meriden after becoming trapped under vehicle
A motorcyclist died in a car crash in Meriden Monday evening after becoming trapped under another vehicle.
Meriden police on Tuesday identified the victim as 30-year-old Jeffrey Swift. He was killed following a crash reported at about 7:12 p.m. at the intersection of Olive and Broad streets.
According to Meriden police, a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee was pulling out of Olive Street when Swift, heading south on Broad Street on a Yamaha motorcycle, struck the front driver-side portion of the Jeep. Police said the motorcycle then slid across Broad Street and into a Chevrolet Impala that was stopped at a red light, trapping Swift under the car.
Firefighters had to lift the vehicle off of Swift before life-saving measures were attempted, Meriden police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
No other injuries were reported.
The Meriden Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating the accident and asking anyone with information, including those in the area who may have video surveillance, to call 203-630-6101.
