The number of person days of work generated under MGNREGA in January and February 2023, following the implementation of the National Mobile Monitoring System (NMMS) app for attendance, has decreased in comparison to previous years. Data compiled by the civil society group NREGA Sangharsh Morcha revealed 34.59 crore person days were generated in 2023 while the figures were 53.07 crore, 56.94 crore, 47.75 crore and 47.86 crore for 2022, 2021 and 2020, and 2019 respectively. The workers are protesting the ABPS payment system’s mandatory implementation and poor network coverage in rural areas that hinders attendance marking.
