The pets she lost in the fire: Caterina Scorsone fans mourn her cats and dog

Fans of “Grey’s Anatomy” star Caterina Scorsone are expressing gratitude that she was able to save herself and her three young daughters from a sudden and fast-moving house fire.

But they are devastated by Scorsone’s news that her three cats and one dog — whom she often featured on her Instagram account — died in the blaze.

“I am heartbroken right now,” wrote the creator of a fan Instagram account, scorsone.pets, which was dedicated to sharing photos of the actor’s animals, cats Luna, Bear and Clover and an unnamed dog. The photos included some from when Luna, Bear and Clover were fluffy white, black and calico rescue kittens.

“Caterina Scorsone losing 4 pets in a house fire,” another fan tweeted. “What a strong woman. I literally think that’s something I would never be able to recover from. like my heart is aching for her.” Yet another fan wrote:

Scorsone revealed on Instagram Monday that she and her family had survived a devastating house fire “a couple months ago.” She didn’t offer any details about the location of her home or how the fire started.

“While getting my kids ready for bed and finishing bath time, smoke began to seep up through the grout around the tub,” Scorsone wrote. “When I looked down the hallway a river of thick black smoke had already formed and was filling the house.”

Scorsone said she only had about two minutes to get her three daughters, ages 3 to 10, out of the house. “We escaped with less than shoes on our feet. But we got out. And for that I am eternally grateful.”

“Heartbreakingly, we lost all four of our pets,” she continued. “We are still sitting with that loss, but we are lucky we got to love them at all.”

With the post, Scorsone shared a photo of the charred remains of her living room and fireplace, as well as a photo of her and her daughters playing a game in theroom. She also shared several photos of her lost pets, including of black cat Bear and calico Clover hiding in their Christmas tree. Cat-loving fans previously expressed appreciation for Scorsone being one of them:

Scorsone is best known for playing Dr. Amelia Shepherd on the hit ABC drama. She shares three children, Lucky, 3, Pippa, 6, and Eliza, 10, with her ex-husband Rob Giles.

While Scorsone isn’t known for saying much about her private life, she has opened up about raising a child with Down syndrome. In late March, she shared a photo of herself hugging her second daughter Pippa to celebrate World Down syndrome day in what appeared to be the family’s living room, prior to the fire.

Scorsone talked to People in 2020 about raising Pippa, saying that her “difference lit a match in my life and in the life of my family.”

The TV star explained that she was initially “scared” when Pippa was born, but that she quickly shifted her perspective, seeing any of Pippa’s differences as beautiful individuality like anyone else’s unique attributes, People reported.

“It suddenly became crystal clear,” she said. “There is no standard, objective, perfect human being. The metrics of perfection are arbitrary and imposed in the service of those who fit them. My daughter is perfect. Exactly the way she is.”
