Separatist group, Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), has pledged to support the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent's call for a referendum to secede from India. The offer came in a letter from SFJ founder Gurpatwant Singh Pannu to ULFA leader Paresh Baruah, after militants demanded the release of eight pro-Khalistan leaders from a jail in Assam. Pannu accused Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of fueling a war with the Sikh group by filing charges against separatist leaders. ULFA termed the ultimatum “misunderstood” and “unfortunate”.
