WHO keeping a ‘watch’ on new Covid variant XBB.1.16 spreading in 22 countries

According to WHO, XBB.1.16 is one of more than 600 Omicron subvariants that are currently circulating. The variant is similar to the XBB.1.5 variant that has dominated the US throughout 2023 but is distinguished by a mutation.
