This was one of Dhami's promises in the run-up to the 2022 assembly election, which saw an incumbent government retaining power for the first time in Uttarakhand. In May last year, the government formed a five-member committee led by former Supreme Court judge (retired) Ranjana Prakash Desai to prepare a draft proposal for implementation of UCC in the state.
