Enrolments into the Indian government's pension scheme, PM Shram Yogi Maan Dhan (PM-SYM), for unorganised workers declined to 4.4 million as on March 31, 2023, compared to 4.6 million the previous year. Experts suggest the decline could be temporary as enrolment numbers for the scheme are impacted by negative pulls and positive pushes. Inflation may have dissuaded some unorganised workers from contributing to the scheme, leading to its first dip in enrolments in the last fiscal year. PM-SYM was launched in March 2018 and offers a minimum assured monthly pension of INR 3,000 to beneficiaries aged 60 and above.
