First picture of Donald Trump in court
The first images of Donald Trump in Manhattan Criminal Court have been released after he arrived for his arraignment.
The former president appeared in court for his first formal hearing after a grand jury indicted him on 34 felony charges for falsifying business records last week.
Trump sat beside his lawyers, Joseph Tacopina and Susan Necheles, in a New York City courthouse for the arraignment scheduled for 2.15pm on Tuesday.
Trump sat silently with his hands folded as he listened to the charges. When asked how he pleaded, he said ‘not guilty.’
The charges are all Class E felonies, and carry with them a maximum sentence of four years in prison each.
In 2016, Trump allegedly arranged to send hush money payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels to cover up news of an affair.
He reportedly instructed his attorney, Michael Cohen, to make the payments just weeks before his presidential election. Cohen later pleaded guilty to eight felonies related to the incident, including campaign finance violations.
Trump said nothing before or after his appearance.
