Man found dead on I-580 after being shot on Oakland city streets is identified
OAKLAND — A 57-year-old man shot while driving March 29 — who then continued driving, but crashed his van and died on Interstate 580 — was identified by authorities Tuesday.
A motive for the killing of Delondo Bellamy still has not been confirmed, police said. No arrests have been announced.
Bellamy, of Oakland, was shot about 10:30 p.m. March 29 as he was driving in the 300 block of Van Buren Avenue in the Adams Point neighborhood, probably by someone standing outside, authorities said.
Despite being wounded he was able to drive onto nearby Interstate 580 where he crashed in the eastbound lanes near Park Boulevard. He was pronounced dead there.
Bellamy did not live in Adams Point and police have not said why they believe he was in the area. He may have gotten onto the freeway hoping to drive himself to a hospital.
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the killer. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3821 or 510-238-7950 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
