Elderly man rescued by hero passers-by after crashing mobility scooter in river
An OAP was rescued by good Samaritans after crashing his mobility scooter into a river – seconds before it sank beneath the water.
A man saw the crash and rushed to pull him out of the water in Suzhou, Anhui Province, eastern China.
Video footage shows the young man wading knee-deep into the river after spotting the driver trapped inside the vehicle. He then forces the door open and drags the driver out.
Seconds later, two more men join in the rescue and haul the driver – who appears unable to stand – all the way up the steep riverbank.
They place the man down onto a rock as they apparently wait for help to arrive.
According to local witnesses the driver could have used too much throttle and lost control of the vehicle.
A woman said it took just two minutes before the vehicle was completely submerged underwater.
The driver was eventually collected by his family.
Footage of the miraculous rescue was shared on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok.
Douyin user ‘the sea’ said in a comment: ‘The lad is amazing! We should all learn from him.’
And user ‘The world is full of beauty in April’ wrote: ‘He should be given an award for bravery – a certificate, and a big reward of more than CNY 50,000 [GBP 5,800]!’
