Oxford mother who pleaded guilty in connection with toddler’s fatal drug overdose expected to face sentencing in June
An Oxford woman whose son died of acute intoxication of fentanyl and morphine before his first birthday has pleaded guilty to a felony charge.
Rebecca Dixon, 37, is expected to face sentencing on June 28 following an appearance Wednesday in Milford Superior Court. Online court records indicate she had faced one count of second-degree manslaughter before pleading guilty to one count of risk of injury to a minor.
Dixon’s attorney on Thursday could not be reached for comment seeking details on the plea bargain.
According to court documents, Dixon called 911 in July 2020 and reported that her son was not breathing. The toddler was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. The boy would have turned 1 later that month.
Court papers said investigators who processed the scene at the Blue Ridge Terrace home found evidence of drug use, including a glass smoking pipe and glassine envelopes. Dixon, court documents said, admitted that she and her husband both used heroin, though she said she didn’t think her child would have come into contact with any heroin because the two were “careful.”
Investigators found that the child died of acute intoxication due to the combined effects of fentanyl and morphine, with recent cocaine exposure, according to court documents.
