Part of the magic of restaurants is how they can create mood and atmosphere in what would otherwise be completely non-descript rooms in strip malls and average inner-city retail blocks. For 15 years, the unit at 1022 17th Ave. S.W. was, in look, smell, and soul, a hot dog joint. When Tubby Dog closed in 2021, it was hard to imagine the room as anything other than a hot dog joint. But times change, and so can interior design.
