Bay Area News Group boys athlete of the week: Josiah Rodriguez, Serra baseball

Serra baseball player Josiah Rodriguez has been named the Bay Area News Group’s boys high school athlete of the week for March 27-April 1 after he had 56.58% of the vote at the 5 p.m. deadline Wednesday.

Bellarmine diver Jack Clark (35.48%) finished second and Los Altos track and field athlete Zachary Fagin placed third.

Congratulations to all the candidates for this week’s recognition.

Rodriguez, a junior, slugged a three-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the seventh to lift Serra to a 7-4 victory over St. Francis in West Catholic Athletic League play. He finished the game with four RBIs.

He also knocked in four runs in a rout of Archbishop Riordan earlier in the week.
