Manchester United vs Everton betting preview
IT’S a quick turnaround for Manchester United after Wednesday’s 1-0 win over Brentford and Everton will be glad of the extra 48 hours rest.
Michael Keane’s last-gasp piledriver against Spurs on Monday gave the Toffees’ fight against the drop a significant boost and they remain just above the dreaded drop zone going into this, the first of the weekend’s matches.
They’ll face a team who know the games are coming thick and fast – United are fighting for a top-four finish, as well as the FA Cup and Europa League. Sevilla are next up in the latter on Thursday.
Two games a week will be the norm between now and the end of the season, as long as cup progress is made, and Erik ten Hag’s team selections will need to reflect that.
One man he can’t really afford to be without right now though is Marcus Rashford, match-winner again on Wednesday. He now has 20 goals in his 27 post-World Cup games.
Ten Hag will also want Casemiro and Christian Eriksen back as soon as possible – midfield has been an area in which United have been short on numbers of late.
The good news for United is undoubtedly their strong home form.
Comparisons with the Sir Alex Ferguson era haven’t exactly been useful in these parts in recent years but the fact is Old Trafford has become a proper fortress again this season.
Twenty-one of the last 24 games here have been won by the hosts (all competitions) with the last defeat in September. The only Premier League loss came back on the opening day.
Asking an Everton team who have won once here in 30 years to breach the ramparts is a big ask and one suspects it will be a fairly defensive set-up from Sean Dyche.
They’ll take heart from recent draws at Forest and Chelsea but this is a step up in level and the hosts should be able to claim the points.

Manchester United vs Everton best bets
Man Utd to win to nil
United haven’t had too many problems at home to anyone having won 21 of their last 24 at Old Trafford.
And when it comes to the nine relegation candidates, they’ve faced seven on their own turf, winning five and drawing two.
Of the five wins, four have come without conceding – United have landed this bet against Leicester, Bournemouth, Forest and West Ham so far.
Overall, the Red Devils have conceded just eight goals at home, the lowest such total.
Everton are the lowest scorers in the top flight and can’t rely on wonder goals rescuing them on a regular basis.
A win to nil makes solid sense.
Marcus Rashford to score at any time
Odds-against about the red-hot Rashford scoring at home to one of the relegation contenders looks too good to miss given the streak he is on.
It’s now 20 goals in 27 games since he departed the World Cup in Qatar.
One of those goals came against Everton in the FA Cup; don’t be surprised if he adds another against a defence which has already shipped multiple goals at Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea under Sean Dyche.
Lisandro Martinez over 2 tackles
This bet was a winner on these pages against Brentford when Martinez made 3+ tackles for the eight time in his last 11 games.
He ended on five against the Bees and while Everton probably won’t carry the same goal threat, the price simply looks too big about a player who loves a challenge.
The Argentine always looks to stamp his authority on a game and expect him to be heavily involved in stopping the runs of Demarai Gray, the likely starter up front for the visitors.
