UConn’s Jordan Hawkins Declares for NBA Draft

0

UConn star shooting guard Jordan Hawkins, an instrumental member of the national champion Huskies, announced Friday on ESPN’s NBA Today that he is declaring for the 2023 NBA draft.

Hawkins enjoyed a stellar sophomore season in which he averaged 16.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. The first team All-Big East member was one of the nation’s top shooters from beyond the arc, hitting at a 38.8% clip from deep.

In the 2023 NCAA tournament, the talented shooting guard drained 21 of 42 attempts (50%) from beyond the arc, helping the Huskies capture their fifth national title in school history.

In speaking with Malika Andrews on NBA Today the sensational shooter was humble and candid about his decision.

“Hearing my name called on draft night will be a blessing,” Hawkins said. “Shooting is my superpower.”

Coach Dan Hurley, who appeared alongside Hawkins on the ESPN show Friday, was in agreement on comparing his player to Warriors shooting guard Klay Thompson as an elite catch and shoot prospect.

“I think this guy, for the modern game, has the potential to be a multi-positional defender who from a shooting standpoint will be at the highest for that league,” said Hurley. “He is an old school kid, who wants to be coached and will only continue to get better.”

Hawkins is the cousin of LSU star Angel Reese, who also won a national championship as a key member of the Tigers.
