The popular BBC cooking show returned to screens on Monday night, with nine hopefuls battling it out to make it to the next round.

Show judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace revealed that the latest round of cooks were tasked with making something from ‘home’.

The group, including delivery driver Nickolas, were each given one hour and forty minutes to make their dishes.

As it came up to his time to present his dish, the dad-of-one was seen looking nervous as he tried to plate the food on time.

But making an awkward slip of the tongue, he left fans in hysterics as he tried to voice his anticipation over the tense competition.

“It’s itchy bum [time],” Nickolas began to say, before laughing and correcting himself: “No, it’s squeaky bum time. You don’t want that.”

Fans at home were left cringing at the hilarious mistake, and took to Twitter to comment about his faux pas.

One said alongside a series of laughing emojis: “Itchy bum time?!” while a second added: “Itchy bum?!”

“Itchy bum time? He’s on the wrong show. He wanted to be on Embarrassing Bodies I think!” a third joked.

While a fourth added alongside crying emojis: “Itchy bum time in the kitchen? I wouldn’t be eating that…”

Elsewhere on the show, fans have all made the same complaint about judges John and Gregg after the series returned.

Dozens of viewers flooded Twitter to hit out at the pair, after they repeatedly pronounced an iconic Scottish dish wrong.

Geva told the cameras she was making her twist on haggis, neeps and tatties, with a microwaveable hollandaise sauce.

However, after presenting the dish to John and Gregg, fans at home were left furious over their pronunciation of “neeps”.

Neeps is the word used for white turnips, which is served alongside traditional haggis and roasted potatoes in the dish.

But instead of pronouncing it how fans expected, they were left red in the face that the pair kept calling them “nips”.

“It’s NEEPS, John, not NIPS,” one furiously hit out, as another chimed in: “Someone please tell John it’s neeps and tatties, not nips!”

“John saying ‘nips’ instead of ‘neeps’ might set me off,” a third added, while a fourth said: “It’s not NIPS, it’s neeps.”

“I think you’ll find it’s neeps not nips, John,” a fifth said, while a sixth chimed in with a face palm emoji: “It’s NEEPS.”

Masterchef airs Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays at 8pm on BBC One.
