Manhattan DA prosecuting Donald Trump sues lawmaker to block interference in case
The Manhattan district attorney prosecuting former President Donald Trump has sued a lawmaker to stop congressional Republicans from interfering in the criminal case.
District Attorney Alvin Bragg filed a 50-page lawsuit in the Southern District of New York on Tuesday against GOP Rep Jim Jordan of Ohio.
The suit accuses Jordan of a ‘brazen and unconstitutional attack’ on prosecutors investigating Trump’s hush money case, according to The New York Times.
Jordan has led a ‘transparent campaign to intimidate and attack’ Bragg, claims the suit.
The lawsuit comes a week after Bragg unveiled 34 felony charges against Trump and the ex-president was arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court.
In the suit, Bragg slammed Jordan and House Republicans for subpoenaing former assistant district attorney Mark Pomerantz, who was involved in the Trump probe.
‘Rather than allowing the criminal process to proceed in the ordinary course, Chairman Jordan and the committee are participating in a campaign of intimidation, retaliation and obstruction,’ states the suit.
Bragg seeks a court order barring Pomerantz from complying with the subpoena.
Since Trump predicted his arrest on March 18, Bragg’s office has received more than 1,000 phone calls and emails from the ex-president’s supporters including many that are ‘threatening and racially charged’, according to the suit.
