You could earn £23,000 replying to King Charles’s letters

The King is hiring someone to reply to his letters for him – for less than £1 an hour over the National Living Wage.

King Charles is looking for someone to write his letters for £23,000 per year.

The new assistant correspondence officer would be based at Buckingham Palace and could have a hefty workload, as the late Queen Elizabeth II used to receive up to 300 letters every day.

Working 37-and-a-half hours per week the salary works out at £11.79 per hour, and the role is for a year-long fixed contracts starting in May.

The National Living Wage, which came into force on April 1, is £10.42 an hour.

The job description reads: ‘It’s drafting a letter that someone will never forget.

‘It’s working in a team with a shared and unique purpose, engaging with the public whilst supporting The King’s role.

‘This is what makes working for the royal household so exceptional.

‘Thousands of letters addressed to the monarch and Royal Family are received every year.

‘Working as part of the correspondence team, your challenge will be to ensure that each one receives a timely and well composed response.

‘Every day you will respond to letters sent by the public regarding social, community and national matters, drafting bespoke responses to answer varying and often unique queries.

‘Recording and monitoring all correspondence, you’ll be proud of the number of letters you handle and this will drive you to deliver consistently high standards.

‘In this way, you will help to support the important work of The King and the Royal Family.’

Applicants are expected to have good writing skills, be able to meet strict deadlines, have strong IT skills and have a keen eye for detail.

The closing date for the role is April 30.
