Testarossa, Bywater host events.
This spring, the ruminants are in green grass heaven, and cheese lovers will be the beneficiaries. If you love cheese, with perhaps the perfect glass of wine, head to Testarossa on Saturday, April 23, 2-4 p.m., for their cheese and wine pairing class. It begins with a tour of the winery and the history of Testarossa, followed by a seated wine and cheese pairing, with tips on how to go about creating a tempting and crowd-pleasing cheese board. $65 at https://www.exploretock.com/testarossawinery/event.
Testarossa Wine Club members can look forward to a special three-course La Rinconada luncheon on April 16, and a four-course Farm to Table dinner with passed apps on May 5. Chef Nadiv Geiger’s apps include pea-stuffed Morel mushrooms with preserved lemon-tarragon glaze and Llano Seco pork belly bites with fennel salsa. The dinner features braised leeks with avocado labneh, day boat scallops with green garlic favetta, braised and confit duck with spring veggies and honey cake with pistachio crumble, lemon blackberry compote and thyme.
Dust off those bonnets and Kentucky couture and prepare to revel in next-level horse racing come Derby Day, Saturday, May 6, at The Bywater, 532 N. Santa Cruz Ave., Los Gatos, where admission is $20 per person (donated to World Central Kitchen) and includes one raffle ticket. https://www.thebywaterca.com
Brunch doesn’t have to be a once in a blue moon affair, but this one is pretty special. Treat your family and friends to a unique “East Meets West” experience at the recently launched Sunday brunch at Adrestia, the restaurant at the new TETRA Hotel in Sunnyvale, where Chef Hideki Myo taps his Japanese heritage to please a broad spectrum of palates.
Adrestia’s adventurous brunch menu blends yoshoku, which means Western food, and washoku, or Japanese food. King of Mushroom Doria, a savory, slow-cooked porridge of rice, mushrooms and parmigiano that warms the soul, epitomizes yoshoku. Chef Hideki’s French toast sando marries milk bread with thin-sliced ham, white cheddar and egg, accompanied by a striking yuzu aoli. Surf & Turf eggs Benedict with miso Hollandaise, umami chicken BLT and porchetta and fried egg sandwich with salsa verde and karashi mayo are among many brunch options that combine his cultural inspirations. Adrestia, located at 400 W. Java Drive in Sunnyvale, serves brunch 7 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sundays; lunch and dinner are served daily. https://www.tetrahotelsv.com/dining/adrestia
