Huge blow to Man Utd as Lisandro Martinez is ‘out for rest of season’ with foot injury vs Sevilla
MANCHESTER UNITED have reportedly been rocked by an injury to Lisandro Martinez – which is said to have ruled the defender out for the rest of the season.
The Argentina international was in tears as he hobbled off the pitch in the first leg of the Red Devils’ Europa League quarter-final tie with Sevilla on Thursday night.
The severity of the injury was initially unknown, although United fans feared the worst.
But it’s since been claimed the centre-back will miss United’s run-in for the 2022-23 campaign.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein tweeted: “Lisandro Martinez set to miss rest of season with a foot injury suffered in Man Utd draw vs Sevilla.”
Martinez, 25, is said to have sustained a metatarsal injury.
United boss Erik ten Hag shared his concerns for Martinez shortly after the 2-2 draw at Old Trafford.
He said: “When Licha Martinez drops out with no opponent involved, it doesn’t look that great.
“It doesn’t look that great.
“We have to wait, I can’t say in this moment.”

France international Raphael Varane also added to Ten Hag’s injury headache with a foot injury of his own.
And it’s said the World Cup winner could also miss the rest of the campaign.
Dutchman Ten Hag continued: “Same with Rapha [Varane].
“I didn’t speak with him after the game but I know of an injury complaint over the last weeks so we have to see how it is now.”
United blew a two-goal lead against the Spanish giants, with own goals from Tyrell Malacia and Harry Maguire cancelling out a Marcel Sabizter double.
A frustrated Ten Hag said: “We had the game in hand. We were 2-0 up. We should have scored three or four even.
“Then some unlucky moments with injuries.
“Had to make some subs with Varane at half time and Martial because it’s his first start in a long time.
“Injuries saw us lose the rhythm of the game. First half we played very well with a lot of belief. We should have scored more.”
United will be back in action on Sunday, travelling to the City Ground to take on Premier League strugglers Nottingham Forest.
