According to Variety, Guy told Mickey that “the time of the gangster movie was over” when the screenplay was finished.
Despite that, The Gentlemen reportedly features similar characters and storylines.
In the lawsuit, Mickey alleges that he reached out to Guy after the film was released. The director reportedly claimed that they had tried to get in touch. He said that he was not offered a writing credit on the movie but was offered one on a future project.
“I’ll try, but what I can do is get you a credit on something in the future. Let me see what I can do. Honestly, we did try to get hold of you,” Guy reportedly said.
Mickey‘s lawsuit makes it clear that he just wants “credit for his original work that has been used in The Gentlemen without his consent and without payment of the agreed remuneration.”
