St. John’s adds 3rd transfer in Iona’s Cruz Davis

St. John’s added its third transfer under new coach Rick Pitino in 6-foot-3 Iona transfer Cruz Davis.
Davis, who averaged 6.5 points on an Iona team that won the MAAC regular-season and tournament titles, will bring a knowledge of Pitino’s coaching and leadership styles. He joins fellow Iona transfer Daniss Jenkins and VMI transfer Sean Conway on Pitino’s new roster.
“I’m obviously very familiar with the staff and coach P is the best,” he said.
“I know coach Pitino’s system and [I will bring] my ability to defend at a high level.”
St. John’s also hosted Harvard transfer Chris Ledlum this weekend.
“Without a question you can win right away,” Pitino said at his introductory news conference. “I think Pittsburgh has shown that right away. I think Missouri has shown that right away. I need guys who can shoot the basketball, not get fatigued, get after it defensively. We’re probably going to have to bring in 6-8 players for this basketball team and that’s going to take a lot of work.”
