I’m a hairdresser – four simple reasons why your locks are always greasy and how to make them last longer between washes
IF YOU’RE sick of your tresses looking greasy even though you’ve just washed them, don’t worry.
As it turns out, there are four simple reasons your locks don’t stay fresh – but they’re easy to fix.
Hairdresser Abbey Young took to YouTube to reveal the mistakes you might be making.
First of all, it’s important to emulsify your shampoo before applying to you hair.
This basically involves rubbing it in between your hands to lather it up before massaging it into your scalp.
It will help you distribute the product evenly throughout your hair, as well as dilute it and warm it up slightly.
You should also be shampooing twice for cleaner locks – remember, lather, rinse, repeat.
The first wash will lift any dandruff and dirt, but the second wash ensures all that dirt and grease is fully out of your hair.
When it comes to which products to use, Abbey recommended going for a “clarifying rinse or shampoo to remove build-up.”
Finally, dry shampoo can work wonders for extended the life of your hair between washes, but chances are you’ve been using it wrong.
According to the pro, you shouldn’t wait until your hair starts to look greasy to apply the product, but rather use it on clean hair to prevent it from getting greasy in the first place.
It might seem weird to spray freshly washed hair with dry shampoo, but it will mean your locks will look luscious for loads longer.
Fellow hair fans loved the simple tricks and couldn’t wait to put them to the test.
“Shampooing my hair twice literally changed my life,” one person raved.
A second said: “You’re supposed to use dry shampoo BEFORE it gets greasy? I’ve been doing it wrong my whole life.”
“Didn’t know about clarifying shampoos, the more you know,” someone else wrote.
