Man Utd 'strongly interested' in signing €50m star with big aerial presence - report
Manchester United are strongly interested in signing Monaco defender Axel Disasi this summer, according to French journalist Ignazio Genuardi.
The Red Devils currently have Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof as the centre-back options in the first-team squad.
However, it is quite clear that Martinez and Varane are the first-choice picks for manager Erik ten Hag when fit and available for selection.
We won’t be surprised if Ten Hag eyes another centre-back this summer and Genuardi claims that the Red Devils are ‘strongly interested’ in Disasi.
The Frenchman has been scouted by West Ham United in recent months but the 25-year-old has his sights on joining a more high-profile club.
Disasi would provide quality back-up for Man Utd
The 25-year-old was linked with a Premier League move during his time at Reims but he ended up signing for Monaco for €13 million in 2020.
Disasi has since developed into one of the best centre-backs in the French top-flight and he was recently involved with Les Bleus at the World Cup.
In our view, United should consider him as a back-up to Varane as he prefers the right centre-back role.
This season, he has averaged one tackle and three clearances per league game. He has also won an impressive 75 per cent of his aerial duels.
The Frenchman has the attributes to succeed in the Premier League but he won’t come on the cheap with Monaco now said to value him at €50m.
A marquee striker is the top priority for United this summer but the club will most likely invest on a centre-back, should Maguire or Lindelof leave.
