Things to do in Ottawa this week: Celebrate the Hindu festival of spring, see a trans-Atlantic collaboration or try a tango
Red Baraat will bring an explosion of colour and sound to Centrepointe Theatre on April 26, part of the Brooklyn-based band’s 11th annual tour to mark Holi, the Hindu festival that celebrates spring, love and new life. With an extended lineup that includes horns, guitar and plenty of percussion, including the dhol, the double-sided drum played by frontman Sunny Jain, the band concocts a heady fusion of bhangra, hip hop and jazz, injects it with a boost of punk energy and sends sparks flying. They play an 8 p.m. show at the Les Lye Studio at Meridian Centrepointe Theatre, 101 Centrepointe Dr. Tickets are $49.75, available at meridiancentrepointe.com. Read More
