Sir Michael Parkinson, 88, makes rare public appearance with cricket legend Dickie Bird
CHAT show legend Michael Parkinson has made a rare public appearance at a cricket function for one of the sport’s best-known names.
The 88-year-old was in high spirits as he attended Dickie Bird’s 90th birthday party at Headingley Stadium in Leeds.
Michael opted for a smart navy checked suit jacket and light blue shirt for the occasion.
The TV star posed for snaps with Dickie Bird at the event.
Dickie, who is a retired international cricket umpire, opted for a smart grey jacket and trousers.
He completed the look with a blue shirt and matching tie.
The two have been pals since the 50s when they were part of the Barnsley Cricket Club.
Sir Michael started off his career at a local newspaper as a journalist, but by the 60s decided to make a move to television.
He is best known for his popular TV talk show Parkinson, which was on air between 1971 to 1982, and again from 1998 to 2007.
In recent years he has stepped back from the limelight, however he appeared on BBC Breakfast last year.
During a candid chat with hosts Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt, Sir Michael opened up on his impressive life and career.
Naga asked the star: “Do you get sick of seeing the TV clips?”
Michael responded: “Do I get sick of it? Absolutely.”
He went on to add: “I don’t recognise the person.”
