We’re a family of five and live in a tent – people troll us as bad parents with beige kids but they’re so wrong
LIVING LIFE off the grid can be an appealing lifestyle, especially when you can wake up to a new view every day.
And that’s exactly how a family of five have chosen to lead their lives as they travel in a landcruiser across Australia and sleep in a tent.
Bo and Tye, who have three kids together, use their social media channels, including YouTube, Instagram and TikTok, to document their journey in a bid to give people a peek into their lives on the road.
In their YouTube biography, they wrote: “Hey! We’re Bo & Tye – along with our three kids, we’re sharing our life on the road.
“We’re traveling in our 60 series landcruiser named Peanut and camping our way around Australia. Join us as we share beautiful unique stays and locations from our travels.”
And in one short clip, they told viewers: “Welcome to the side of TikTok where we live in a tent, homeschool our kids and somehow make a living from our car/trailer”.
Their daughter could be seen sitting at a table outside, presumably doing homework as their beige tent could be seen in the background alongside their car. A second child could be seen in the background, trying to retrieve a plane toy from the roof of the tent.
The family appeared to be surrounded by nature, with tall trees and plants growing everywhere.
In another video, the parents showed off a second set-up, where they placed a rug on the floor alongside two chairs underneath a small cover overlooking the sea.
“You live in a tent with your husband and 3 kids so you can wake up with a new view every week,” they wrote over this.
In the caption, they added: “It really never gets old. Except when it’s raining, then its not great”. [sic]
A third clip showed one of their daughters making dinner for them all at a table covered in a beige cloth.
Broccoli and several jars of sauces and condiments could be seen alongside the young child, who donned a pale pink T-shirt alongside striped shorts.
“Our kids take turns cooking dinner every night,” they wrote over this. “It’s a fun and creative outlet for them while also building the foundation for a healthy relationship with food”.
In the caption, they added: “Not to mention, they’re always so proud when they cook! We love this ritual with them”.
In a fourth clip, their kids could be seen on their own as text over this read: “you do not find a happy life…” [sic]
The parents then came into view as they all laughed and hugged. Finishing the sentence, they added: “You MAKE IT,” [sic] with an orange heart emoji.
While the family appear happy in their lifestyle, trolls were quick to comment on the posts as one person wrote: “is the dream now being homeless?” as another said it was “sad”.
A third said: “And wearing brown clothes is key to making happiness,” to which they hit back: “You should def give it a go”.
“Honey, it’s sad that our world has come to this, but you do what you to so for you and those babies. Kudos,” [sic] another shared.
The parents replied: “Hey! We are living like this by choice, choosing to be surrounded by nature and adventure for our kiddos! But thanks for the kudos! Xx”. [sic]
Meanwhile, one person said: “i wanted to do this but was told by CPS I must have access to plumbing and electricity. so how do you do this?” [sic]
They respond: “We are fully self sufficient with water and electricity. We stay in free camps, campgrounds run by the department of parks and caravanparks !” [sic]
Others were overwhelmingly supportive of their life on the road as one person shared: “I love this. We have the tent, a Toyota hiace, toddler and the desire to homeschool. Just have to take the jump!” [sic]
“We did this for two years!! The best life with our kids and wouldn’t have traded it for anything! Priceless,” [sic] another wrote.
While another said: “The best side of tik tok. I’d love to do this with my kids. What an amazing experience for you all”. [sic]
