Bilal Rehman, a luxury interior designer with an impressive 285.5k followers and 2.3million likes on TikTok, recently took to the video sharing platform to reveal his handy guide to ensure your home looks expensive and not cheap.

Not only this, but Bilal revealed that cheap 2000s trends that according to him, needs to die.

Posting on the social media app, he shared his clip with the caption ‘Your guide to non-tacky themed interior design!’

He said: “How to design around a theme without being tacky as f**k with your favourite luxury interior designer.

“For example, if you’re trying to do coastal décor in your home, instead of finding a fish net and hanging it on your wall as décor, opt for these – using coastal tones throughout your furniture and accessories can really help define the theme without screaming it in your face.

“Go for natural browns, natural creams, off whites, things that really represent the ocean.

“A very soft blue colour for example could be a great addition to your living space or to your overall décor but do not get anything that screams HomeGoods seasonal.

“Going too far into the theme is gonna make it feel tacky as s**t.”

As well as this, Bilal shared his thoughts on using textures in a home.

He added: “Another great way to achieve any theme that you’re after is textures.

“Textures can play such a vital role in implementing the overall feeling that you’re trying to achieve.

“For example, in a coastal room, try to opt for a jute rug, things of that nature that have a lot of texture but still feel super natural and elevated.

“Do not go for a rug that has printed seashells or a water line or anything like that, because it’s instantly going to cheapen the space and it’s gonna make it feel like you just walked into a circus.”

Finally, the interior whizz opened up on his thoughts on a popular 2000s trend.

He explained: “And I know some of you are gonna rip my a** to shreds for this one, but those tacky dolphin bathrooms that for some reasons we all had in the 2000s – have got to die. It does not scream beach.

“Don’t get me wrong, I know it’s 2023 and we’re supposed to be more accepting, but let me tell you something, that Dolphin shrine is a no go.

“We don’t accept that, that’s just weird.”

Bilal’s clip has clearly made many chuckle, as it has quickly amassed 27.6k views.

It has 1,936 likes, 41 comments and 36 shares.

Many social media users agreed with Bilal and were eager to reflect this in the comments.

One person said: “Literally laughing so hard because I swear everything you describe is our parents’ generation aesthetic and it really does look cheap!”

Another added: “The dolphin bathrooms remind me of souvenir shops at the beach, so tacky!”

A third commented: “Love this!”

Whilst someone else agreed: “Finally someone said it! Try looking for an airbnb in Florida that doesn’t look like a Homegoods store.”
