Stress of waiting for cancer surgery is making me feel more ill
DEAR DEIDRE: THE stress of waiting for cancer surgery is making me even more ill.
It feels like my whole life is on hold and the anxiety is unbearable.
I’m a 58-year-old man and was diagnosed with prostate cancer two months ago.
I was told an operation to remove my prostate should cure me, but there’s at least a six-month wait.
I lie awake, imagining the cancer spreading, and I can’t concentrate on work or my hobbies.
My wife, who is 57, is trying to be supportive but nothing she says helps.

I just want to put the operation behind me and move forward with my life.
DEIDRE SAYS: This is a horrible waiting game, but prostate cancer is very slow growing and the wait should not affect your prognosis.
You need expert support. Contact Prostate Cancer UK (0800 074 8383, prostatecanceruk.org) for advice from cancer nurses.
