Surviving May Not Be Seen As Achievement Believes Former Leeds United Star

The Yorkshire outfit sacked Jesse Marsch in February and appointed Javi Gracia to keep them up in the Premier League, after a managerial search which lasted two weeks.

Despite some positive results under new boss Leeds have lost their last three games on the bounce and relegation fears linger.

Prutton is of the view that Leeds’ fellow relegation strugglers have a tough run of games ahead and believes that the Whites’ survival might come to a stage where they have to depend on teams below them underperforming.

The former Leeds star pointed out that even if the Whites survive the relegation battle, they may not be able to term it an achievement.

Prutton stressed though that Leeds still have their fate in their own hands and can make sure they do not need to rely on other teams slipping up.

“The teams below Leeds also have hard run-ins and it’s a strange one because if survival is achieved then we use that word ‘achievement’ but achievement it could be by the virtue of just the simple maths of having three worse teams”, Prutton wrote in his Yorkshire Evening Post column.

“That’s not denigrating what survival is because for possibly two thirds of the Premier League it is about survival year on year and I totally get that.

“Everyone understands that given the finances at the very top level.

“But that case rests on Leeds relying on those teams underperforming whereas now it is still in their grasp to do their side of it which is to perform, get the points and get themselves to safety.”

Leeds are set to face fellow relegation strugglers Leicester City on Tuesday before taking on Bournemouth on 30th April.
