I’m an interior designer and turned an IKEA children’s seat into a fancy-looking boucle footstool – it was so easy
A DIY pro has revealed how she transformed a bargain IKEA children’s seat into a fancy boucle footstool – and people can’t believe how good it looks.
Dalia shared the simple DIY on TikTok, showing how she gave the bog-standard chair an on-trend glow-up in three simple steps.
Known online as @dalia.ea, she regularly shares interior design inspiration and home hacks with her 42,500 followers.
In a new reel, she said: “Did you know that you can turn IKEA’s FLISAT children’s stool into a beautiful boucle footstool in three easy steps?
“Here’s how. I started off by sanding the stool, first with 120-grit sandpaper and then again with a 220-grit sanding sponge to prep it for staining.
“I did the exact same thing for the legs, starting off with 120-grit sandpaper and then again with a 220-grit sanding sponge.
“I assembled the stool and got ready to stain it in the shade ‘Dark Walnut’.
“For the stain, I went in with a thin even coat. Wiped it off, then went in with a second thin coat to give it that really deep, warm finish.
“Then I traced and cut a sponge cushion around the seat so it can sit perfectly on the stool.
“I prepped and cut the shearling fabric, which if you can’t find you can use a textured blanket.
“I also traced and cut a piece of cardboard around the seat for the staples to hold on to, and I glued a piece of shearling to it for a seamless end result.
“I went in and stapled the fabric around the entire cushion from the bottom, and then I cut the excess pieces to clean it all up.
“And voila, here’s the finished result. This is truly the IKEA hack of my dreams.”
In another video, Dalia revealed that she secured the DIY cushion to the top of her stool using a high-strength adhesive spray.
TikTokkers loved her savvy idea, with the video gaining more than 10,100 likes and 193,400 views.
Shoppers can pick up the FLISAT stool, now £17, both online or in their local IKEA store.
The Minwax Wood Finish Wood Stain she used is also available to buy online from various retailers, including eBay, with prices starting at £9.24.
And the on-trend boucle material may set keen DIYers back as little as £3.16 on sites like Etsy and Hobbycraft.
In the comments, DIY fans shared their reactions, with one writing: “I’m obsessed… might need to do this!!”
“It looks like it came out of Zara Home, I love it u r so creative,” commented another.
A third put: “Absolutely beautiful! The dark finish is beautiful. Thank you, will definitely try to recreate it!”
Someone else said: “Going to get all the supplies as we speak.”
Although not all were impressed, with another adding: “No more boucle, please!!!!”
