I tried the B&M challenge to make my own rug… it was easier than I thought & looks so good people say I could sell them

A CRAFTY mum was pleasantly surprised after taking part in the B&M challenge to make a DIY rug – and people are impressed too.

Home transformations can often cost thousands – but one mum-of-two, Megan Andrews, from the UK, proved you only need a couple of bargains, as well as patience.

To give her daughter’s nursery a little character, the craft lover decided to take up the £50 challenge set by B&M and make a chequerboard rug.

For this, she only used a couple of cheap buys – two fluffy faux fur rugs that cost £20 each, some carpet tape, duct tape, as well as a sharp pair of scissors.

Step one, she revealed in her video shared on TikTok, was marking identical squares on the back of each rug.

”Maybe get a template for this – I wish I’d done that, that would’ve been a lot easier,” Megan suggested.

After you’re done, simply grab the scissors and cut out all the squares.

The only downside of the project, she noted, was the fluffy material, which made for a huge mess all over the floor.

Once all the black and white squares had been cut out, the parent used carpet tape to stick the pieces together in a chequerboard pattern.

”I then got my duct tape and kind of went crazy on the back.

”I’m probably gonna get some kind of carpet backing. However, this has actually held really well for now.

”I did that – with absolutely no knowledge and now you can too,” Megan was pleased with the final result.

It’s not just the crafty parent who was obsessed with the DIY rug – social media users couldn’t get over the transformation either.

One fan said: ”suits the room so well.”

Another advised Megan, who posts under the username @tattfamily, to make this into a side hustle and cash in.

”You should sell these.”

”CUTEEEEE!!!!! I now need to do this [sic],” a third felt inspired.

”I’d of used some fabric glue around the edges first to hold more,” a TikTok fanatic recommended.

”Wow I love this going to give it a go,” someone else commented.
