Newcastle United Ask Club About Signing Player, Given Firm Answer On Possible Deal

The 25-year-old, who was part of the Croatia squad that managed to reach the World Cup semi-final in Qatar earlier this season, has managed just one 90-minute appearance in the last ten games for the French club.

However, in spite of his limited appearances, he is still managing to attract interest from clubs outside France.

In England, Newcastle United, who are fighting to secure a place in the Champions League at the end of the season, have asked for information about Majer, according to French outlet Foot Mercato.

Rennes have responded by telling Newcastle United that they would only want to part with the player for a sum of around €40m.

A sell-on clause would force Rennes to pay Dinamo Zagreb, Majer’s former club, a certain percentage of the potential fee as a result of which they are holding out for a €40m fee.

The player has a long-term contract with Rennes that runs until the summer of 2027.

It remains to be seen whether Newcastle United agree to meet Rennes’ demand to take the Croatian on-board, but it is suggested that Majer is keen to move on from Rennes.
