In observance of Stars Wars Day, Google has given Din Grogu—better known as Baby Yoda to legions of fans—full run of the homepage with an interactive Google Doodle.
The informal holiday, which occurs every year on May 4, is a pun on the popular catchphrase "May the force be with you." And what better way to commemorate it than with the franchise's hottest star, especially since season three of The Mandalorian just wrapped up a few weeks ago.
When users go to the Google homepage and type in either "Baby Yoda" or "Grogu," the character appears on the lower righthand side of the page. Click on Grogu and he uses the Force to pull the various search results right off the screen. He continues to do so until the blocks of text pile up at the bottom of the page.
A rep for Google said that the Grogu doodle was not sponsored, however noted that the company worked with Disney to make sure that everything was depicted accurately.
“Grogu is such a playful character and has amassed a huge following,” Lucas Bullen, Google’s lead engineer on the project, told Variety. “We wanted to recognize that and let fans interact with Grogu while he is practicing his Force skills on the Search page. We always enjoy adding these sorts of experiences for fans to stumble upon while using Google Search and as a Star Wars fan myself, working on this Easter Egg was a real treat.”
Baby Yoda will wreak havoc on search results for both mobile and desktop versions of the Google homepage.
The character has been a fan favorite ever since the series first premiered on Disney+ in November 2019. The series stars Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin, the titular bounty hunter who goes on the run to protect his would-be target. In addition to The Mandalorian, both Grogu and Din Djari have also appeared in Disney's tandem Star Wars series, The Book of Boba Fett.
