The Italian giants had to do it the hard way as they came from behind against Udinese to claim the vital point that sealed the league win, its first in 33 years.

Victor Osimhen‘s goal in the 52nd minute was enough to earn his side a draw and send the fans into pandemonium at full time.

The skyline of the city was illuminated with fireworks as fans prepared for the night of celebrations.

The club’s supporters then packed out the streets, brandishing Napoli scarves, shirts and flags.

One of the gathering points for fans was outside the Royal Palace of Naples.

The building had been lit up in the colours of the club as people partied outside.

Many of the party-goers were donning Diego Maradona shirts in tribute to the Argentine legend.

Jubilant supporters were also parading cars that had been decorated in club paraphernalia.

The scenes inside the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium were more mixed as fans stormed the pitch after the final whistle.

There were some unsightly scenes as some fans brawled on the pitch while using belts as weapons.

Local cops in riot gear with batons were forced to stop the violent clashes by separating fans with shields.

However, many fans celebrated with the players and collected mementos when they could.

Some fans were spotted cutting grass out of the pitch and putting it into a bag, while some lucky few were able to get clothing from the players.

Napoli’s previous Serie A title came when Maradona captained them to a second title in four seasons in 1990.

But they have eased to the crown in 2023 with five games to spare.

Their point against Udinese takes them 16 clear of second-place Lazio after 33 matches.

They have lost just three times and averaged more than two goals per game.

It is the third league title in Napoli’s history after the two Maradona won within the space of four years.

It is also the first time since 2001 that a team outside of Juventus, AC Milan or Inter Milan have been crowned Italian champions.
