Lizzo cancels Montreal show due to illness. Could Hartford be next?
Grammy winner Lizzo canceled her scheduled performance in Montreal on Thursday due to illness, telling fans she was struggling with flu-like symptoms and a 102-degree fever, leaving the status for Saturday’s show in Hartford up in the air.
The singer posted on social media just hours before her concert at the Bell Centre to apologize to fans for the cancellation.
“Hi Montreal I had a sore throat last night and a headache and I went to bed and I woke up this morning and it was worse, and my body’s weak and I have chills and my head hurts,” she said in a video where she appears wearing a face mask and under covers.
“Normally if it’s just a cold I would shower, I’ll eat, take some medicine, it gets better, but this is getting worse. I think it’s the flu, and I have to make the unfortunate decision to cancel today.”
Lizzo’s next date on “The Special Tour” is Saturday at the XL Center in Hartford. It is unclear if she will be healthy enough to perform.
The “About Damn Time” singer has been under a grueling schedule over the past week, performing last Friday at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and attending the Met Gala in New York on Monday.
Lizzo said she hopes to find a date to reschedule the Montreal show.
“This is the second time I have ever had to cancel due to health in my entire career, and I will make it up to you Montreal,” she said. “I’m so sorry.”
