Pakistani Militants Launch Attacks Using Advanced US Weapons
Pakistani militants launch attacks on police and military personnel using sophisticated weapons and technologies left behind by the US and NATO forces during their withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021, according to officials.
Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Balochistan Liberation Army (LBA) are among the insurgent groups that have obtained advanced weapons and used them while launching attacks in different parts of Pakistan.
According to political experts, the influx of modern US weapons has led to an unprecedented rise in terror attacks across Pakistan over the past two years, resulting in the death in injury of hundreds of security officials and ordinary civilians.
The withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan in August 2021 has significantly reduced US air strikes in the region, allowing the militants to operate more freely, The National reported.
On Thursday (May 4), in a separate attack, the TTP militants killed six Pakistani army personnel in a north-western tribal district bordering Afghanistan.
The deteriorating security situation has forced Pakistan to increase its efforts to fight against militants, however, the number of attacks is still on the rise. The February mosque bombing that killed more than 100 people is one of the most brutal attacks conducted by militant groups.
Amid the economic crisis and political polarization, Pakistan is struggling to contain the TTP militants, who continue targeting security officials and police all over Pakistan.
Following the Afghan Taliban’s victory in August 2021, the Pakistani Taliban, also known as the TTP, have continued waging war against the country’s government.
The Afghan Taliban, TTP’s ideological twin facilitated a four-month ceasefire between the TTP and Islamabad last year, however, peace talks broke down because of disagreements over terms, leading to a new wave of attacks.
